CAMPASUN - Var Verdon Trail accommodation: stay at Camping de l’Aigle in Aiguines

Var Verdon Trail accommodation: stay at Camping de l’Aigle in Aiguines

Published on 07/01/2026 by CAMPASUN

Campasun: Camping de l’Aigle in Aiguines with a view of Lake Sainte-Croix

As a partner of the Var Verdon Trail, Camping Campasun de l’Aigle welcomes participants and their companions every year in a green setting. Located in Aiguines, the starting and finishing point of the races, the campsite represents a natural base for experiencing the trail while enjoying the Verdon. Without being limited to a purely sporting approach, the site is also aimed at families who wish to stay for several days in a calm environment, in the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park. During this period, the high attendance linked to the Var Verdon Trail leads to a high occupancy rate, which makes early booking particularly recommended.

At the gateway to the Gorges du Verdon and perched above Lake Sainte-Croix, Camping de l’Aigle is a 3-star establishment located a two-minute walk from the village of Aiguines. From sunrise until evening, the panorama over the lake and the surrounding landscapes accompanies the stay. The terraced site offers a natural layout of the accommodation, with a family-friendly atmosphere that respects the environment. The campsite accepts dogs and also offers a catering area, completing the on-site services.

Var Verdon Trail Aiguines: an unmissable sporting event

Campasun: Var Verdon Trail Canyon in Aiguines

The Var Verdon Trail Canyon is a trail running event organised in the heart of the Gorges du Verdon, within the Parc naturel régional du Verdon. Created at the beginning of the 1990s, it is listed among the first nature races in the South-East region and has retained, since its origin, an identity strongly linked to the territory. Organised by the association AÉRIA Organisation, the trail is based on in-depth knowledge of the Verdon trails and on a structured organisation, bringing together volunteers, field professionals and partners committed to an environmentally respectful approach.

The Var Verdon Trail Canyon stands out for its technical and demanding routes, designed to showcase the reliefs and panoramas of the largest canyon in Europe. The event now offers four formats, all starting and finishing in the village of Aiguines, which facilitates participant reception and race logistics.

The Balcons du Verdon trail is the longest race. With a distance of 40 kilometres, it features a positive elevation gain of 1,932 metres and an estimated race time of around ten hours. The route alternates committed descents, sustained climbs and technical sections, notably including the ascent of the Grand Margès, the highest point of the course, before returning to Aiguines via demanding trails.

The Grand Margès trail offers an intermediate format of 24 kilometres, with a positive elevation gain of 1,673 metres and an average race time of six hours. This route crosses varied sectors of the Verdon, combining scree slopes, forest trails and natural balconies offering open views over Lake Sainte-Croix. It is aimed at runners looking for a technical course without committing to the longest distance.

The Cirque de Vaumale trail extends over 17 kilometres with a positive elevation gain of 1,274 metres, and an estimated race time of four hours. After a gradual start through the narrow streets of Aiguines, the route quickly gains intensity and crosses emblematic areas of the canyon, before a sustained climb towards the Grand Margès and a technical descent to the finish.

Finally, the 8-kilometre discovery route offers a more accessible approach to the Var Verdon Trail Canyon. With 270 metres of positive elevation gain and a race time of around three hours, it allows participants to discover the world of trail running in the Verdon through forest sections and viewpoints overlooking Lake Sainte-Croix, while remaining true to the spirit of the event.

Thanks to starts and finishes centralised in Aiguines, the Var Verdon Trail Canyon is fully integrated into village life and strengthens the appeal of choosing Var Verdon Trail accommodation located in the immediate vicinity of the routes.
